While most doctors agree that stress levels are a huge factor in health, modern medicine can only offer a pill to suppress the symptoms.
Our bodies are magnificent and amazing when all our systems are in balance. But the nervous system---our body’s electrical system that brings in all the information from our world---is not designed for the fast-paced modern lifestyle. Like any system, when it gets out of balance---when it becomes dis-regulated and de-calibrated---it shorts out. We find our batteries drained and ourselves functioning in a desperate, survival state.
Unfortunately, holistic solutions for stress are often focused on a long list of relaxing activities that we must fit into our already too full, time-limited daily routine: spend an hour each morning meditating and journaling; take a 30 minute walk every day (when exactly will that happen?); go to the gym, get a massage, take a bath and so on. Even if we have the time to add these into our schedules, it’s rare that these services are covered by our insurance and let’s face it, paying for a regular routine of body work sessions, salt tanks and spa days is not in most household budgets.
